It was rain or shine for the first fundraising event of the season for the National Voice of America Museum of Broadcasting in West Chester, Ohio. The wet weather last weekend dampened but did not overcome the event.
Scattered showers persisted through the jazz/big band concert featuring Carmon DeLeone and his New Studio Big Bang and Grammy-winning songwriter Mike Reid. The museum crew was prepared, moving the festivities under a tent, allowing the rain to serve as more of a cooldown on a warm Ohio night.
Around 150 people attended the concert, which raised funds for museum restorations, including making the museum ADA compliant, new restrooms and a new entrance. The museum plans to host multiple fundraisers to help achieve its goals. Other than a heavy downpour toward the end of the concert (Mother Nature’s version of a standing ovation?) and a mysteriously missing chair, VOA said that proceedings went off splendidly.
The museum is open for a few hours once a month at present. It occupies the art deco former Bethany Station, originally designed as the world’s most powerful radio transmission facility; organizers hope to turn it into “an educational resource for the region and the nation.”
