CBS Radio News Plays Up Presence on Amazon Smart Devices

“Alexa, what’s in the news?”

With Amazon’s smart devices and its Alexa interface riding high in the wake of Christmas and CES, CBS Radio called attention to its presence on the device.

CBS issued a press release Monday, saying the CBS Radio News Hourly News Cast “skill” — as Amazon calls its apps, for some reason — makes it the “first commercial news network to be available on Alexa.” The CBS Radio News Cast was added to the Amazon store last fall.

Using CBS Radio News, users can summon an on-demand five-minute or one-minute briefing on the today’s news on Alexa-compatible devices. Or for the slightly more news-obsessed, listeners can set news updates to play hourly “flash briefings” on these same devices, which include the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Amazon Tap and Amazon Fire TV.

NPR News, BBC News, This Week in Tech, theSkimm, CNET and others are also available for Alexa users who want “flash briefings. ”
