Digital Terrestrial Radio Moves Forward in France
Paris, Marseille and Nice now have access to digital terrestrial radio, according to the Digital Radio Newsletter.
Most stations on the multiplexes in Paris and Marseille are expected to begin broadcasting quickly. June 20 marked the technical start date for many of the operators and stations in these cities. Broadcasters assigned to a multiplex have one month to begin broadcasts, under the rules set by the regulatory authority Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel.
For Nice, complications make a September start date more probable for most of the services.
Each individual multiplex operator has three months to begin broadcasts, at which point the CSA could intervene to declare the lapse of authorization of the multiplex operator.
Olivier Schrameck, the president of the CSA is expected to release a report on the status of DAB+ in France in September, a few months after the official launch date.
