DRM Highlights Technology at BES

Consortium to show listeners digital radio’s benefits

Digital Radio Mondiale will have a booth at Indian Broadcast Engineering Society’s 19th International Conference and Exhibition on Terrestrial and Satellite Broadcasting from Jan. 29–31 in New Delhi. DRM plans to give attendees a first hand experience of the technology.

Public broadcaster All India Radio’s DRM transmissions are now on the air, and in December 2012, public radio and television broadcaster Prasar Bharati, issued orders for six 300 kW medium wave transmitters configured for DRM30 transmission.

“We now need to take the project to the next level and demonstrate the benefits to the listeners and why digital is demonstrably superior to analog,” DRM Consortium Chair Ruxandra Obreja said. “By participating and listening to the presentations made by some of the consortium members during the BES conference and then testing, programming and experiencing the DRM benefits directly, we are offering a unique and new experience to the broadcasting industry in India.”

Ampegon, Analog Devices, Digidia, Harris, Fraunhofer IIS, Nautel, and NXP, among others, will attend both the BES exhibition and the conference.
