The Digital Radio Mondiale Consortium is hosting a comprehensive workshop to demonstrate the possibilities of the DRM standard on Friday, July 19, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The workshop, which takes place during the SABA Digital Broadcasting Infrastructure and Platforms event held in Johannesburg in parallel with Mediatech, July 17–19, will bring together DRM experts, including those from organizations such as Ampegon, Fraunhofer IIS, and Nautel, to make presentations and answer questions.
According to DRM, as a result of South Africa’s increased interest in the DRM standard, the Consortium will use this opportunity to launch the DRM Southern African Platform — a group open to any organization interested in digital radio, such as broadcasters, local manufacturers, regulators and other stakeholders.
This is “a landmark opportunity to provide a viable digital radio opportunity to our members,” said SABA Secretary General, Cecil Nguvauva.
“This is our largest presence in South Africa to-date,” said DRM Chairman, Ruxandra Obreja “We will have an excellent opportunity to present and even demonstrate the great benefits of DRM for broadcasters and listeners in the vast Southern Africa region and we hope to connect with the local stakeholders who already see DRM as a very efficient way of digitizing radio.”
