Thailand Eyes DAB+

Southeast Asian country considering DAB+ for its digital radio standard

Australia recently welcomed nine delegates from Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission for technical and policy meetings with DAB+ digital radio stakeholders.

Col. Dr. Natee Sukonrat, the chairman of the National Broadcasting Commission and vice chairman of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand, led the delegation, which included senior representatives from legal, policy, licensing, engineering and technology areas.

According to reports, Thailand is considering digital radio and used the occasion, which was hosted by Commercial Radio Australia to meet with Australian commercial and public service broadcasters, in addition to the Dept. of Broadband Communications and the Digital Economy (DBCDE), to discuss the successful switch-on of DAB+ digital radio in Australia.

Countries including Switzerland, Malta, Sweden, Hungary, Germany, and Italy have adopted the DAB+ digital radio technology.
