Huheso Foundation Launches Radio Station

Tanzanian station strives to help marginalized communities

Tanzania-based Huheso Foundation, an organization that aims to educate underprivileged communities about HIV/AIDS, cancer, agriculture, rights abuse and reproductive health for youth, is launching its own radio station.

Huheso FM, located in Kahama, in the northwestern part of the country, obtained an FM license in June and has begun construction of its studios.

Huheso founder and executive director Juma M. Mwesigwa says that the organization has been working with a network of young reporters for the past four years to produce educational radio and television programs for local communities, and its sees the establishment of a radio station as a natural progression of its endeavors.

“On June 2 we received an FM license and a construction permit from the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority,” said Mwesigwa. “But now we are looking for support from those who may have used radio equipment they no longer need. This will help get us on air.”
