Noxon Journaline Is Introduced

DAB+ radio features optimized Journaline text service

The Noxon Journaline from German firm Terratec offers a DAB+ radio with the optimized text service Journaline technology developed by Fraunhofer Institute IIS.

The text-based news service in the Noxon Journaline was integrated with Fraunhofer and will be available in early February for approximately €99.

Journaline is a data application for DAB and DRM digital radio systems. It allows listeners to use an intelligent menu to access current information, as well as station keys for quick access to favorite topics. The messages include both program-related information such as artists and songs, while it also comprises separate elements, including sports, traffic and weather.

With low bitrate requirements, Journaline technology permits the import/transformation of existing broadcaster’s content sources based on standard formats like XML optimized for inexpensive consumer receivers. It also features a metadata option for text-to-speech playback.

“For us, usability and innovation in the operation of radio equipment are very important. Together with the Fraunhofer Institute, we have, with Noxon Journaline, developed a piece of the future,” said Terratec CEO Walter Grieger.

The Noxon Journaline is a compact (190x116x116) and multi-functional radio. The radio features DAB+ and FM reception, audio-based instructions, large display, alarm function and a USB port for software updates.
