Sports personalities score big in Dallas, WTOP, WHO pick up two Marconis each

Winners of the 2012 National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Radio Awards were announced Thursday night at the annual NAB Marconi Radio Awards Dinner & Show held at the Radio Show in Dallas.

The winners are:

Legendary Station: KSTP(FM), St. Paul, Minn.
AC Station of the Year: WBEB(FM), Philadelphia
CHR Station of the Year: KIIS(FM), Los Angeles
Major Market Station of the Year: WTOP(FM), Washington, D.C.
Large Market Station of the Year: KSON(FM), San Diego
Medium Market Station of the Year: WHO(AM), Des Moines, Iowa
Small Market Station of the Year: WVAQ(FM), Morgantown, W.Va.
News/Talk Station of the Year: WTOP(FM), Washington, D.C.
Country Station of the Year: WYCD(FM), Detroit
Oldies Station of the Year: WOGL(FM), Philadelphia
Rock Station of the Year: KINK(FM), Portland, Ore.
Religious Station of the Year: KLTY(FM), Dallas
Spanish Station of the Year: KMVK(FM), Dallas
Sports Station of the Year: WEEI(FM), Boston
Urban Station of the Year: WBLS(FM), New York
Network/Syndicated Personality of the Year: Dan Patrick, Direct TV/Premiere Networks
Major Market Personality of the Year: Mike Francesa, WFAN(AM), New York
Large Market Personality of the Year: Moon and Staci, KSTP(FM), St. Paul, Minn.
Medium Market Personality of the Year: Jan Mickelson, WHO(AM), Des Moines, Iowa
Small Market Personality of the Year: Scotty and Carissa in the Morning, KCLR(FM), Columbia, Mo.

The dinner was hosted by Edgar Sotelo of Dallas’ KMVK(FM). Melissa Etheridge provide the entertainment.

The Marconi Radio Awards were established in 1989 and named after inventor and Nobel Prize winner Guglielmo Marconi. They are given annually to radio stations and outstanding on-air personalities to recognize excellence in radio.
