Brown Named Sales Manager for WPHT, Philly Traffic

And John Farneda returns to WXRT as music director

Jim Brown has been named sales manager of WPHT(AM) as well as local traffic ad sales across the CBS Radio Philadelphia cluster, according to CBS Radio Philadelphia VP/Director of Sales Dave Scopinich. Additionally, CBS Radio Chicago has appointed John Farneda as music director for WXRT(FM), formalizing a position he has held on an interim basis since early April.

A Philadelphia native, Brown began his career in Philadelphia media in 1983 as an account manager at KYW(TV). His career highlights include serving as SVP and director of sales at Shadow Networks and being a founding partner at Traffic.com. Most recently, he spent 13 years at Greater Media Inc., where he held roles including general sales manager of WBEN(FM); general sales manager of WMGK(FM); station manager of WJJZ(AM/HD2); and group sales manager at WMMR(FM), WMGK(FM), WBEN and WPEN(FM).

CBS Radio owns and operates WOGL, WZMP, WXTU, KYW, WIP and WPHT in Philadelphia.

In Chicago John Farneda will report to WXRT Operations Manager and PD Greg Solk.

He previously held the music director position at WXRT from 2001–2014. Farneda began as a public affairs intern for WXRT midday host Terri Hemmert in 1983 and shifted to assistant music director under then music director and current WXRT morning host Lin Brehmer in 1985. He was then promoted to assistant PD/music director in 2001. He later added operations director duties for the station, prior to leaving in 2014 to focus on the renovation of his Frank Lloyd Wright home in west suburban Riverside.

In Chicago, CBS Radio owns and operates WBBM(FM), WJMK(FM), WUSN(FM), WXRT, WBBM(AM)/WCFS(FM), and WSCR(AM) and serves as the broadcast partner for Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears play-by-play.
