Cumulus Mobile Taps Steele for Ops Manager

And Doughboy heads to KVYB in California

Cumulus Media has named Jimmy Steele as operations manager for its five-station cluster in Mobile, Ala., and the company appointed Matthew “Doughboy” Florence as PD and afternoon on-air personality for KVYB(FM) in Oxnard-Ventura, Calif.

In the newly created position, Steele will oversee operations for WABD(FM), WGOK(AM), WBLX(FM), WDLT(FM) and WXQW(AM). He will also serve WXQW(AM) as PD.

Steele has more than 30 years’ experience as a program director, operations manager and on-air talent. He joins Cumulus from iHeartMedia in Reading, Pa., where he was PD for WRFY(FM) and WRAW(AM/FM) and morning host on WRFY(FM). He also served iHeartMedia as SVP of programming for its six stations in Ocean City/Salisbury, Md. Prior to that he was director of operations/brand manager for Saga Communications’ four stations in Columbus, Ohio.

Previously, Steele held posts at iHeart/Clear Channel, including operations manager and director of programming for its seven-station group in San Diego; regional vice president of programming for Columbus, Ohio; and central Ohio regional markets; and PD of WNCI(FM) in Columbus. He was also PD for Clear Channel’s WRVW(FM) in Nashville, Tenn.

Florence was previously the assistant PD and afternoon on-air host at KDLW(FM) in Albuquerque, N.M.
