Marvin Brown, broadcast engineer for WLHR(LP) in Maryville, Tenn., died Thursday, April 14. He was 72.
Brown earned a degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Florida Atlantic University, according to an obituary. He worked for IBM in Florida from which he eventually retired, later moving to Maryville, Tenn. At the time of his death, Brown was a broadcast engineer in Pellissippi State Community College’s Educational Technology Services department in Knoxville, Tenn.
Always involved in ministry work, Brown established radio station WLHR at East Maryville Baptist Church and played a critical role in production and operation work at the Broadway Baptist Church’s TV Ministry, in Maryville. He was also known to regularly travel abroad for missionary work.
Friend and co-worker Audrey Williams, director of Pellissippi’s Educational Technology Services department, posted the following to the Christian Community Broadcaster’s listserv: “Marvin was a great engineer and a good man. As his department director, I have two holes to fill: one for the engineering work and one in my heart, as I have lost a friend and colleague who I loved.”
Brown’s death was the result of an automobile accident that occurred while driving home from work at Pellissippi State. He is survived by his wife Joyce Brown, daughter Annette Brown Traore and husband Malick, son Jeffrey Brown, granddaughter Nia Traore and two sisters Harriett Perkins and Eileen Churchill.
