Green Mountain Broadcasters to Meet in May

58th annual event will also host Commercial of the Year Luncheon

The 58th Annual Vermont Association of Broadcasters convention will be held May 16 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Montpelier, Vt.

Registration is open now, and the $25 fee covers the morning and afternoon seminars, as well as the VAB Commercial of the Year Luncheon and complimentary coffee, tea and snacks.

In the morning, Katey McGuckin-Woolam of sales training specialist P1 Selling will speak about how stations can differentiate themselves in a session entitled “We Are Not Alone — How to Stand Out From the Crowd.” Then, Fred Jacobs of Jacobs Media will cover “Utilizing Social and Mobile Media.”

Intended specifically for engineers, Don Haes will host a seminar on “RF Safety Training,” also in the morning.

In the afternoon, P1 Selling will explain how Vermont broadcasters can take advantage of the VAB’s recent partnership with the company and will give “tips and tricks.” Programmers will also want to attend “Techsurvey 9 Results,” as presented by Jacobs.

The luncheon will include the presentation of the 2013 Commercial of the Year Awards. The deadline to enter the contest is March 15, and awards will be presented for radio and TV commercials, promos, PSAs and spec spots; additionally, within each category there will be awards for best copywriting, best produced, most creative, when applicable. The “Best in Show” honoree will only be recognized in this category, however.

Eligible spots must have aired between Feb. 1, 2012 and Feb. 1, 2013. Stations and agencies may only submit a maximum of nine entries. Stations must be VAB members in good standing and ad agencies must be associate members in good standing.
