Hams, Bring Your Handhelds to Vegas
You already know about the annual ham reception that
NAB holds on Wednesday evening; but there’s more going on for amateur radio
According to ARRL’s website, “Members of the Las Vegas Radio Amateurs Club
will staff the ARRL booth at NAB, providing attendees with information about
Amateur Radio. The booth also serves as a meeting place for radio amateurs
attending the convention where they can talk with local leaders, as well as
ARRL Pacific Division Director Bob Vallio, W6RGG.”
be in booth L1 in the convention center lobby (maybe NAB Science &
Technology Vice President John Marino, KR1O, helped them get a prime spot!).
Further, LVRAC President Jerry Sobel, K0MBB, encouraged radio
amateurs to bring a transceiver and use the 146.940 MHz repeater in the Las
Vegas Hotel and Casino next door to the convention center, according to ARRL. “Several
people at the booth usually monitor this machine for ‘talk-in,’ providing
directions to exhibits and general information.”
local club also will host a special meeting and program on April 9 in the area;
it invited NAB hams to visit (RSVP at the ARRL booth).
of course the NAB Show also features the popular Amateur Radio Operators
Reception (and its legendary stacks and stacks of door prizes) on Wednesday
evening in the LVH Hotel after exhibit hours close.
