iHeart Ups Doc Wynter to EVP of Urban/Hip-Hop Strategy

iHeart Tampa names new market president & Phoenix taps on-air talent

iHeartMedia’s National Programming Group has promoted Doc Wynter to executive vice president of urban/hip-hop programming strategy, a new position. Also, iHeartMedia Tampa Bay, Fla., has chosen Chris Soechtig as its new market president, and iHeartMedia Phoenix has named James T Harris on-air talent for KFYI(AM), effective Jan. 15.

Wynter will continue to oversee iHeartMedia’s urban and hip-hop brand formats and work to improve the company’s urban brands. In addition, he will continue to guide and develop the company’s roster of urban and hip-hop programmers and on-air talent, and book artists and produce events. Wynter will also remain program director for KRRL(FM) Los Angeles.

Doc Wynter will report to iHeartMedia Chief Programming Officer Tom Poleman. He most recently served as senior vice president of urban programming and urban brand manager. He began overseeing the company’s urban radio stations in 1999 and has launched several brands, such as Power 105.1 FM in New York City, REAL 92.3 in Los Angeles, V101.5 in Jacksonville and The Beat. He will also continue to program and manage urban and urban AC content for iHeartRadio custom stations.

Chris Soechtig will report to Linda Byrd, president of iHeartMedia’s North Florida Region. In his new role, he will work with the programming, marketing and sales teams for brands in the area to oversee on-air and digital programming, as well as create business and revenue opportunities.

Soechtig has 25 years of experience at iHeartMedia and began his career in Tampa Bay. He most recently served as the market president for the West Palm Beach/Treasure Coast markets, also in Florida. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of sales operations, where he created and managed corporate sales operations and training platform designed to support sales managers and account executives across iHeartMedia. He previously served as the director of sales for iHeart Tampa.

iHeartMedia Tampa Bay owns and operates WXTB(FM), WFLZ(FM), WFUS(FM), WMTX(FM/HD2), WBTP(FM), WDAE(AM), WFLA(AM), WHNZ(AM) and WRUB(FM).

In Arizona, James T Harris will host “The Conservative Circus,” weekdays from 4–7 p.m. He previously worked as afternoon host for KQTH(AM) in Tucson, Ariz.
