The board of National Public Radio has named a new president and chief executive officer — Jarl Mohn, currently chairman of Southern California Public Radio.
NPR Board Chairman Kit Jensen, who’s also chief operating officer of Cleveland-based Ideastream, said throughout Mohn’s career, he has demonstrated “a keen ability to identify media and consumer trends” and he has a “strong track record on diversity and fairness.”
The 62-year-old Mohn begins his term in July and takes over for Acting President/CEO Paul Haaga, who has held the role since Gary Knell left to head National Geographic last September.
Mohn began his career as a disc jockey in 1967 and was on the air on WNBC(AM) in New York in the 1970s. The Temple University graduate has held management positions with MTV and VH1 and created E! Entertainment Television, according to NPR. Mohn was the founding president and chief executive officer of Liberty Digital, a public company that invested in interactive television, cable networks and internet enterprises.
