Journal Broadcast Group Taps Jim Arnold

Will serve as VP, GM for four-station Tucson cluster

Jim Arnold has been named the new vice president and general manager for Journal

Broadcast Group-Tucson Operations, which includes KMZX(FM), KQTH(FM), KGMG(FM), KFFN(AM).

“Jim Arnold knows Tucson. He studied at the University of Arizona, was an award-winning country music personality on KCUB, and most recently spent a decade as general manager at KOLD(TV),” said Jim Prather, executive vice president of television and radio operations for Journal Broadcast Group. “His depth of experience across sales, programming and community outreach is a perfect fit for our great collection of stations in the Journal Broadcast Group Tucson cluster.”

Arnold began his broadcasting career as an award-winning, nationwide on-air personality, then spent seven years as a radio station general manager.

However, he transitioned to TV for much of his career. From 2000 to 2010, Arnold was the VP/GM of the CBS television affiliate KOLD in Tucson, where he led the station to become the market leader in local news, market revenue and community image for that period, according to a release. Prior to that he served as VP/GM of the Fox affiliate, WQRF(TV) in Rockford, Ill., and KAMR(TV)/KCIT(TV), the NBC/Fox in Amarillo, Texas, from 1998 to 2000.

Earlier in his career, Arnold was the VP/GM of WMSN(TV), the Fox affiliate serving Madison, Wis. Prior to that he was a general sales manager/station manager of KLBK(TV) in Lubbock, Texas. He also handled programming and regional sales for KJTV(TV) in Lubbock .

Arnold was inducted into the Arizona Broadcaster’s Association Foundation Hall of Fame in 2008, named mentor of the year in 2005 for the University of Arizona Department of Media Arts, and received the Silver Medal Award in 2004 from the American Advertising Foundation/Tucson.
