KPAUL Rolls In

KFOG to salute Candlestick and McCartney

San Francisco’s Candlestick Park is famous and infamous. Home to teams such as the Giants and 49ers for decades starting in 1960, the venue is infamous for its swirling winds and unpredictable weather — unpredictable and odd even by San Francisco’s unusual standards.

It is also famous for being the site of the last large public concert of The Beatles, Aug. 29, 1966.

The legendary stadium is slated for demolition but before things go boom, Sir Paul McCartney will make one last appearance Thursday, almost 50 years to the day of that last Beatles concert.

To celebrate, San Francisco’s KFOG (FM), owned by Cumulus Media, is calling itself for the day, KPAUL. It will be all Paul, all day, the station says. It will air back to back to back McCartney tracks — including Wings and solo works.

No word on the whereabouts of Ringo.
