MacDonald Calls for Donations to Colleagues Helping Colleagues Fund

Fund is responding to disasters in Florida, Texas, Puerto Rico and California

The Colleagues Helping Colleagues fund has dwindled down to $1,300, Greater Public President and CEO Joyce MacDonald wrote in an email this week. She anticipates this remaining money will be disbursed to broadcasters in need within the week.

This is despite the fact that more than 400 members of “the public media community” have donated more than $56,000 since September.

That money has gone to aid broadcasters in Texas and Florida, as well as Puerto Rico; so far this week, 50 requests were made from Puerto Ricans. MacDonald also anticipates that the fund will need to help in California as people begin to recover from the wildfires.

The fund is used to help in disaster recovery efforts including clothing donations, cleanup, medicine, food and shelter. MacDonald reminds donors that all of the money received goes to these efforts.

The organization aims to respond to requests within two days.
