Miller and Schaffer Join GSB

Both are former Schwartz, Woods & Miller partners and GW Law School grads

Garvey Schubert Barer has added two lawyers to its Washington-based Communications, Telecom & Media practice.

Former Schwartz, Woods & Miller partners Lawrence M. “Larry” Miller and Steven C. Schaffer are both experienced providers of legal services to radio and television station licensees and other media companies. The third partner, Malcolm Stevenson, retired recently. The firm had existed for nearly 50 years.

Both are members of the D.C. Bar and of the Federal Communications Bar Association and rated AV Preeminent by Martindale. Additionally, Miller is a member the bars of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Schaffer and Miller are graduates of the George Washington University Law School, and Schaffer received his undergraduate degree in radio-television and film from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Miller’s practice includes FCC regulation and compliance, program production and distribution, contracts, copyright and trademark law, services to investors and lenders, and other aspects of communications law. He has worked with clients on station transactions, served as lead counsel in FCC hearings and court appeals and crafted strategies for FCC applications.

At SWM, Schaffer worked with both commercial and noncommercial broadcasters and a variety of people and companies who need to deal with or understand the workings of the FCC, including college radio stations and large financial firms.
