Nevada Public Radio’s NV89 Joins VuHaus

Music discovery video platform showcases local artists

In a move it says is aimed at strengthening its connection with emerging local artists, Nevada Public Radio’s KVNV/NV89 in Reno has announced its affiliation with VuHaus, a music discovery video platform developed by a group of public radio stations.

VuHaus is nonprofit with the stated goal of providing a video service “so audiences can view rare in-studio performances of emerging artists, one-of-a-kind interviews of their favorite musicians and live performance streams, all housed under one roof.”

NV89 will curate a new VuHaus Reno/Las Vegas page with, it says, unique, local video content including The Sextones “Push on Through” as well as Cameron Calloway’s “Supernatural” and Kaylie Foster’s “Single Moment.”

VuHaus was launched in May of 2015 by five public radio stations that are active in music discovery. Since then, more affiliates have signed up, and the addition of NV89 brings the count to 21. According to VuHaus spokesperson Michelle Tharp, discussions are currently underway with six other stations who are interested in joining the group.

VuHaus’ most recent initiative, Slingshot, is a collective effort aimed at elevating exceptional emerging artists suggested by affiliates. Each music member station selected one Slingshot artist in January and will add more to the list throughout the year. Some are important players in a station’s local music scene, while others are rising stars from abroad.

Nevada Public Radio’s broadcast network includes three FM stations serving Nevadans — KNPR/News 88.9 and KCNV/Classical 89.7 in Las Vegas, as well as KVNV/NV89 89.1 in Reno. Combined with five associate stations, 12 translator stations and associated HD Radio digital subchannels, NVPR serves a geographical area of more than 66,000 square miles including parts of California, Utah and Arizona. NVPR is the publisher of the award-winning Desert Companion monthly magazine and the producer of the statewide public affairs program “State of Nevada.”
