NextRadio App Expands to South Korea

TagStation, LLC has announced the expansion of the NextRadio app into South Korea.

The technology, which allows listeners to tune to local FM radio stations via the FM radio chip in their smartphones, also lets listeners use three times less battery and 20 times less data than streaming radio apps, says TagStation.

In addition, says the company, it gives listeners access to FM radio programming even if cellular towers go down, ensuring delivery of emergency messages.

“We recognize how ingrained smartphone usage is in South Korea, with even higher adoption rates than in the U.S. We look forward to introducing to Korea’s mobile-first consumers the benefits of FM radio chip-enabled smartphones and the NextRadio brand. Developing a solid footprint in South Korea will help to strengthen our relationship with leading smartphone device makers, like LG, and forge new relationships as we collaborate with more smartphone makers to unlock the FM radio chip in their devices,” said Paul Brenner, President of TagStation.

With more than 71 percent of South Koreans using a smartphone at least once a month, and the presence of some of the world’s leading global handset makers, TagStation says it sees this move as bringing strategic advantage and creating a great opportunity for NextRadio to grow the FM-enabled smartphone user base internationally.
