Radio Broadcasters Campaign for Good

KAMX’s Jay Styles walks a 100 miles for vets

The NAB has released the August edition of Licensed to Serve, its collection of radio broadcaster do-goodness.

The newsletter is filled with a wide variety of campaigns. For instance, in Indianapolis, local stations from seven different radio groups — Clear Channel, Continental, Cumulus, Emmis, Entercom, Radio One and Indiana-based Sarkes Tarzian — promoted and produced an anti-violence rally called “Indy United,” in the wake of Fourth of July weekend violence.

In Philadelphia, Clear Channel’s WUSL(FM) presented the 11th annual “Peace on the Street Jam.” The jam featured local groups in jam sessions along with other activities to promote an anti-violence campaign.

In North Carolina, the “HungerFreeNC” movement attracted the support of the Radio One cluster in Raleigh. The group participated in raising money for a food shelter.

Univision Radio’s Miami cluster collected cash and food for a local children’s shelter, His House Children’s Home.

WFNC(AM), a Cumulus Media property in Fayetteville, N.C., continued its “fan” campaign. The fans in this case are box fans that are collected and donated to those who need them to keep cool during the sweltering eastern Carolina heat.

Jay Styles of Entercom’s KAMX(AM) in Austin, Texas, completed his “Mix 94.7 and Jay Styles Courage Walk.” The walk raises money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Styles walked 20 miles a day for five days, collecting a total of more than $20,000.
