Radio by the Bay 2013
The California Historical Radio Society is holding its annual Radio by the Bay fundraiser/charity event/social event on Saturday, July 20. The location is their cool clubhouse, the KRE studios in Berkeley, Calif.
It might be the last roundup for the event at that location. It looks as if CHRS will lose control of the famous Deco studio building in a few weeks.
In the meantime, Radio by the Bay will offer a fundraising auction benefiting CHRS and its activities. All sorts of items will be sold — antique radios, collectibles, broadcast equipment, ham radio gear, etc.
There’ll be a live radio drama re-creation play performed by The Broadcast Legends, “The Origin of the Lone Ranger.” In addition there’ll be a live jazz band, The Joyful Notes.
An induction of a new class of Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame inductees is planned along with the CHRS Volunteer of the Year award. A bake sale and the electronic flea market will take place.
Many local celebrities will be in attendance plus a “reunion” of KSAN personalities from the 1960s and 1970s. KSAN was a pioneer of free-form radio. They’ll be raising money for one of their pet charities, the Haight Ashbury Free Medical Clinics, with the “KSAN Live Jive” CD, a collection of unreleased tunes from the glory days of the San Francisco Sound. On the CD are bands such as Jefferson Airplane, Santana, the Doobie Brothers, the Grateful Dead and artists such as Boz Scaggs.
