Registration Opens for IEEE Broadcast Symposium

Show moves to the West Coast this year

Registration is open for the broadcast symposium organized by the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society.

After many years of being held in Washington, organizers wanted to shake things up this year with a new venue. This year’s event is Oct. 9–11 in San Diego.

Keynote speakers so far include Martin Aitken, vice president of Advanced Technology for Sinclair Broadcast Group and Bob Zitter of HBO. Zitter retired from his position as chief technology officer for the pay cable company at the end of last year and now consults HBO on strategic projects.

Broad themes for session topics are the future of television technology, specifically advanced transmission and coding techniques on Oct. 9 and radio technologies on Oct. 10. Audio for both radio and television as well as spectrum issues worldwide are on tap for Oct. 11.

Live and archival session streams will be available.

The 2013 IEEE Broadcast Symposium is taking place at the Westgate Hotel. Discounted rooms are available through Sept. 16.
