WRKO Will Offer Live Bulger Trial Coverage

Personality Howie Carr will broadcast from South Boston every Thursday

It seems Boston can’t get enough of infamous former mob boss Whitey Bulger, whose murder trial (he is indicted for 19 murders) began on June 12. To cover the high profile court case, WRKO(AM)’s Howie Carr will broadcast “The Howie Carr Show” live from South Boston, every week starting June 27.

From 3–7 p.m. on Thursdays, Carr will take up residence at The Barking Crab, which sits next to the South Boston courthouse, where the prosecution is making its case against the Irish Winter Hill gang leader, who was said to be a basis for Jack Nicholson’s character in Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed.”

Carr authored the New York Times best-seller “The Brothers Bulger,” about Whitey and his brother Billy, the now-retired former president of the Massachusetts State Senate.

Whitey Bulger was arrested in Santa Monica, Calif. in 2011, after 12 years on the FBI’s Most Wanted Fugitives list.
