Several more "digital" stations made Arbitron's "book" for Portable People Meter measurement in August.
The audience measurement company defines digital radio as Web streams of encoded stations as well as the encoded air signals of HD Radio stations, both main and multicast.
In September, Arbitron said 11 AM/FM Internet streams met the minimum reporting standard of a .495 weekly cume rating in August. Here's the listing by market:
- New York: WLTW, WHTZ
- Nassau-Suffolk: WHTZ
- Middlesex-Union: WCBS, WLTW, WHTZ, WPLJ
- Los Angeles: KOST, KROQ
- Chicago: WLS
- Riverside: KDAY
That compares to just four station Internet streams for July, the first month such listening was reported. Arbitron officials said fewer holidays in August likely accounted for increased listening.
The numbers reflect encoded stations only; Internet-only radio and podcast tuning are not included.
In all, of an eligible 523 "digital" stations to encode, 395 have encoded and are ready to report in the first 13 PPM markets. The 395 includes 260 HD Radio/Internet stations, 93 HD2 stations, 24 combo HD2/Web stations, 13 HD3 stations and five combo HD Radio/Web streams.
