Westwood One Lays Out Olympic Program Plans

7.25.2008

Westwood One announced details of its plans for covering the Summer Olympic Games.

It will provide live updates three times per hour around the clock. It will offer live play-by-play coverage of events including basketball, swimming, track and field and gymnastics.

Listeners can find stations carrying WWO coverage via its online station finder. Coverage begins Friday, Aug. 8 and runs through Sunday, Aug. 24.

Westwood One has been the official radio network of The Olympic Games since the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea.

The long-form “Olympic Roundup” airs live nightly from 10 p.m. to midnight ET, re-airing 10 p.m. to midnight PT for the West Coast. It features recaps and previews, interviews with athletes and play-by-play. This is hosted by Steve Mason and Justin Kutcher. There will also be three short-form updates per hour.

The network will offer play-by-play of Team USA Men’s Basketball Medal Round games, plus the Gold Medal game. Kevin Kugler will do the play-by-play. Commentators and analysts include gymnast Peter Vidmar, historian David Wallechinsky and reporters Jim Gray, Steve Futterman and Joe Tolleson.
