B100 Has New “Skill”

Country station uses Alexa to expand its presence on the Amazon Echo

Country radio station WBYT(FM)/B100 has launched an Amazon Alexa “skill” utilizing the AudioPlayer interface and the content Scan Feature developed by XAPPmedia.

The enables users to give voice commands to access the Mishawaka, Ind.-based Federated Media station’s live stream, on-demand and podcast content. According to the announcement, it is the first station to do so.

Users can enable the B100 Amazon Alexa skill in their Alexa app, online or by saying, “Alexa, enable B100.” Once enabled, listeners can say “Alexa, open B100,” to access the B100 live stream, on-demand music or podcasts from the station. Each of the on-demand and podcast categories uses a XAPPmedia technology that enables audio scanning of the topics, which facilitates discovery of content.

“Alexa provides a new opportunity for broadcasters to bring radio back into the home and make radio an interactive listening experience for the first time. A few stations have created short Flash Briefings for the Amazon Echo, but Federated Media’s B100 is the first to provide a fully interactive radio experience that includes live stream, on-demand listening and podcasts,” XAPPmedia CEO and co-founder Pat Higbie said in a press release.

XAPPmedia provides tools for mobile content delivery, mobile advertising, voice recognition and voice experience development and maintenance.
