Radio Engineers, Tell APRE What You Wish You’d Known

APRE seeks proposals for PREC 2018

The Association of Public Radio Engineers is accepting proposals for the 2018 Public Radio Engineering Conference now through Dec. 1.

Presentations should address the theme of “Wish I’d Known…” as related to starting a project, producing a show, IT systems or anything broadcast related but should be technical, according to the announcement. Sessions typically last 30-45 minutes and are followed by a 10 minute Q&A period.

Suggested topics include: RF theory and innovations of antennas and transmitters; audio production techniques and solutions; operations such as automation and traffic systems; STLs and studio links; console technology; SNMP; virtualization; digital services like video, streaming, podcasting and news coverage.

“Our goal is to mesh these [topics] with manufacturer solutions and educational papers to complement the learning process. We are looking for presentations technical in nature that are not selling nor promoting a specific product but will educate our audience,” APRE Presentations Committee Chair Dan Houg said in the press release.

“Our audience,” comprised of public radio engineers, operations staff, production personnel and broadcast management, “is looking for solutions to problems, educational enrichment and innovative ideas to bring back to their stations,” Houg wrote.

Those interested in participating should email proposals to [email protected]. The presentation committee will then review submissions and announce those that have been selected at the end of December.

The 18th edition of the PREC will be held April 5–6, 2018 at the Tuscany Suites in Las Vegas.
