IBC Exhibitor Viewpoint: Peter Lee, Orban

“Radio sales are increasing in Spain and France this year. The Netherlands continues to be a FM powerhouse.”

Peter Lee, Orban

IBC2017 is approaching. Radio World is conducting Q&As with manufacturers about their plans. Peter Lee is vice president of global sales and European operations for Orban.

Radio World: What are you hearing from radio customers about their business outlook?

Peter Lee: In general our radio customers are enjoying growth and stability in the European countries. For instance radio sales are increasing in Spain and France this year. The Netherlands continues to be a FM powerhouse. If we look at Asia countries where the radio business is growing, Malaysia, China and Japan are doing very well. Australia and New Zealand continue to install new processors and mixers to replace older ones that have been in service for 10+ years.

RW: What technology priorities or issues are most on the minds of your clients as they come to IBC in 2017?

Lee: Technical priorities or issues vary and depend very much per country. Focus points in today’s radio market are AoIP, AES67, high-quality audio, digital radio, internet radio, cloud based playout and processing , new FM processors and file formats.

RW: Why should attendees visit your booth?

Lee: A good reason for people to visit our booth 8D93 at IBC is that we are introducing the new Optimod FM-8700i, shown, our new flagship audio processor for FM and digital radio. Also featured are the Orban iMix 5.1 Headphone Monitor, iMix Decoder 257 and iMix Mono2Stereo four-channel synthesizer.

RW: What should attendees know about the impact on Orban of the recent acquisition by DaySequerra?

Lee: Since the DaySequerra acquisition of Orban we are enjoying a fresh and new approach to monitor what new technologies our customers are interested in and adapting these requirements into a product that will assist them in achieving their goals. The new Optimod FM 8700i is a good example where we have listened to the market and delivered. We will continue to listen to our customers and will implement new technologies into our equipment and software to help serve radio stations.
