Ruby, Lawo’s new radio mixing console, features a touch-based graphical interface, which the firm says, gives talent the best of both worlds — a clean, uncluttered mixing surface complemented by a modern, context-sensitive GUI.
Users can customize Ruby’s GUI, putting controls for studio software with web-based interfaces on the same screens as console controls. Ruby also offers Automix hands-free mixing of up to 32 mono or stereo sources; auto gain one-touch mic calibration; motorized faders linked to console snapshots with on air and production modes; an EZConfig Wizard for fast setup; and built-in web server for remote diagnostics.
Completely standards-based/AES67-compliant, Lawo says Ruby’s power core mixing engine features dual-redundant network and power connections for uninterrupted uptime; standard audio I/O with two AES67/Ravenna ports and four high-density MADI ports for 384 channels of audio.
In addition, eight expansion slots are ready to provide even more analog, digital, microphone and MADI channels. The power core can be configured with up to 96 DSP input channels, each with input gain, signal presence indicator, direct out, insert, aux send, pan/balance, and auto gain for mic inputs.
Each DSP channel includes three bands of parametric EQ, semi-parametric bands configurable as shelf, high-pass, or low-pass filters, and gating, expansion, compression and limiting.
Ruby, which begins shipping during Q3 this year, comes in desktop or flush-mount versions, in 4, 8, 12 and 16 fader frame sizes that combine to build consoles of up to 60 faders in single- or split frames.
