The New DAW Kid in Town

Resurrection of the two-track editor

Most DAW software these days consists of hefty, often expensive, multichannel suites or cheap but threadbare programs.

A company in Japan called Internet Co. (Yes, that’s the name) is introducing Sound it! 8 Pro, a grown-up two-channel DAW with some high-end features.

Sound it! 8 Pro is available for Windows and (soon) Mac. Offering 64-bit operation it scales out to handle up to 32-bit/768 kHz PCM files and compatibility with DSD256 files (remember, Japan is a nation of audiophiles). File size can measure out to 100 GB.

It also offers the usual mere mortal tools of editing, playback, processing and effects. For processing and effects it can handle VST 2 and VST 3 plug-ins plus AU plug-ins for Mac. It also bundles some plug-ins at shipping, including a package from Sonnox (De-noiser, De-clicker, De-buzzer, among others).

An FFT spectrum analyzer is built-in. File formats include AIFF, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, MP3, PCM Raw, AAC, FLAC, Apple Lossless, DSD, and more. Sound it! 8 Pro can read MIDI files. Price: $199 with an introductory price until Nov. 15 of $149.
