IBC2017 is approaching. Between now and then Radio World offers a series of short Q&As with manufacturers about their plans and offerings, to help you get the most out of the annual trade show. Todor Ivanov is CEO of DEVA Broadcast.

Radio World: How has business been for the company since last year¹s IBC show?
Todor Ivanov: It has been a busy but tremendously successful past 12 months for DEVA Broadcast, marked by a number of important events and achievements. As usual, we have been working tirelessly to bring quality merchandise to our customers worldwide and expand our product range by adding to it products that take broadcasting to the next level. We are pleased to be able to offer our devices to an ever-growing number of clients whose high praise can attest to our company’s accomplishments.

We have also had the privilege to participate in the foremost industry exhibitions and conferences, which are now an indispensable part of our calendar. This gives us ample opportunity for expanding business contacts, promoting new equipment to a large audience and getting ideas for product development. We have also been honored with a number of important industry awards, to add to an already impressive collection.

All in all, it has been a good year for DEVA and we hope to be able to continue providing the right solutions to our customers.

RW: What are you hearing from your customers about their business outlook this year? In what areas should we expect growth or the most interesting projects?
Ivanov: As usual, this is to a large extent, specific to separate regions and markets. Radio can experience the same periods of alternately increasing or decreasing popularity, typical of any business. Demand remains very high in some places, while in others the emphasis is on other types of media. On the whole, though, I believe that radio will keep developing at a rapid pace, bringing more innovative technology to its listeners. Our aim at DEVA is to be among the trendsetters, which is why our efforts and considerable engineering expertise are devoted to designing products that are both representative of cutting-edge technology and easy to operate. For the past year we have released new products in the field of radio monitoring and have also been developing a smart solution fully compliant with the DAB/DAB+ standard, which will occupy an important market niche.

RW: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trend at IBC2017?
Ivanov: The IBC is an arena greatly valued by everyone in the industry as this is a major opportunity to impress the audience with some top-class equipment. It is great for our business because it serves as extra motivation for each company to develop and do even better. It is also a chance to assess the strength and appeal of your own products on an important international stage. As for the DEVA Broadcast team, we will once again be presenting to attendees the latest additions to our product line, including audio processors, radio monitors and IP audio tools. Based on the reviews we have been receiving, we feel confident that our display will receive the acknowledgement it deserves.

RW: You’ve been active in the audio monitoring, encoding and processing markets for 20 years. What’s the biggest problem or challenge facing users in this segment right now?
Ivanov: For us, being in this business for so long is a major advantage. Through the years, we have amassed plenty of experience and carefully researched what our customers are looking for in a particular type of product. We have also had to face a number of challenges but we have kept the same work ethic and maintained a professional attitude, as that is a key factor to success in any industry. Now the experience we have allows us to accurately assess requirements and remain among the leaders on the global market, no matter if it is in the field of radio monitoring, encoding or processing.

RW: How has IP technology affected your company?
Ivanov: We offer a number of IP audio products and we are especially pleased with the customer feedback that each of them has received since its release. We focus a lot of effort on developing devices with the precise capabilities our customers are looking for and this is also reflected in our upcoming DB9009 series. Client interest is already very high and we are confident that these models will prove at least as successful as established customer favorites such as the DB91-TX/RX.

RW: What new products will your company be showing? Why should attendees visit your booth? (Booth 8.D79)
Ivanov: This year we are bringing to the IBC a really spectacular product display. Our bestsellers are important of course but the main focus this year will be on our remarkable line of audio processors. Recently, we have also been concentrating on catering for the growing demand for DAB/DAB+ compatible monitors and we are pleased to be able to provide our clients with gear that is both sophisticated and easy to manage. We will also be showcasing the latest additions to our broadcast tools range. It will be a rich presentation, where clients will be able to pick the right solution for their purposes, so visiting our booth will undoubtedly be worth their while.

RW: Is the IBC Show a good investment?
Ivanov: Definitely. It is a massive event that brings together the top companies and the top equipment. From discussions through demonstrations, to workshops and displays, the show offers a program that allows you to get up to speed with the latest technological developments in the industry. Crucially, this is where face-to-face communication with customers takes place and valuable information on client demands is gathered. The IBC plays a huge role in the world of broadcasting and we are grateful for having the opportunity to be a part of it.

RW: What’s your favorite thing about the IBC show?
Ivanov: In addition to the large scale of the exhibition and its growing reputation, maybe one of the best things about the IBC is the fact that it allows manufacturers to showcase their gear and receive instant client feedback. For DEVA Broadcast, interaction with customers is one of the staples of success. That is why demonstrating the capabilities of our products and simultaneously getting opinions and ideas for improvement is so important. It is precisely that opportunity that the IBC offers thanks to its magnitude and huge popularity.

RW: Social media is the new marketing frontier these days. Is it affecting the way your company does marketing/business?
Ivanov: Of course it is. Social media is an inseparable part of a good marketing strategy because of the quick and easy access to information it provides. Consequently, companies nowadays rely heavily on social media for promoting their activities and products. A regularly updated feed ensures that news is relayed effortlessly and in detail. For us, it is important that information on each new development, every new release or every upcoming event reaches our customers fast and this is exactly what social media guarantees.

RW: If you feel we’ve missed something you can make up and answer your own question.
