WASHINGTON — The Federal Communications Commission says Auction 83 for FM translator construction permits closed last week, and the winning bidders have now been announced.
In net bids, the FCC says the auction raised $574,771 from 20 bidders who were granted 30 construction permits.
Winning bids were made for permits in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Wisconsin.
The highest bid was $301,000, entered by Carolina Radio Group for a permit in Morrisville, N.C. The lowest bid was $750 — made by nine winners.
But the winners are not quite over the finish line yet. Winner bidders must wire a 20% down payment to the commission no later than 6 p.m. (ET) on July 16. Final payments are then due July 30. Check out a breakdown of the money the bidders owe the commission here.
Additionally (this is the FCC after all), bidders must “submit electronically a properly completed long-form application (FCC Form 349, Application for Authority to Construct or Make Changes in an FM Translator or FM Booster Station)” for each permit prior to midnight (ET) on Aug. 8. The filing window will open July 9.
