FCC Announces Comment Deadlines for Latest AM Proposal

Input is due Jan. 22, and replies must be submitted by Feb. 19

WASHINGTON — Early in October, the Federal Communications Commission, still seeking to help revitalize the the senior band for the 21st century, released a Second Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Revitalization of the AM Radio Service proceeding (MB Docket No. 13-249).

The AM Revitalization SFNPRM was published in the Federal Register on Nov. 20, so the commission has now set the 60-day comment and 90-day reply comment deadlines, according to a public notice this week. The deadlines are Jan. 22 and Feb. 19, respectively.

The notice proposes revised interference protections for Class A AM stations in the United States. One proposal is for daytime hours, two are for protection during the “critical hours” periods and two are for protection of Class A AM stations at night. Read our reporting on the Oct. 5 FNPRM here.
