WASHINGTON — The Media Bureau assigned four new call signs in July.
Santa Ana, Calif., added two new LPFM stations: KRQL was assigned to FL Centro Cultural de Mexico en el Condado de Orange, and FL Latino Center for Prevention & Action in Health & Welfare received KSXA.
In Big Spring, Texas, Maxim Mobile Media has added KBUG(FM). Asbury, Iowa, will also get a new full-service station; the Canton Seventh Day Adventist Church was assigned KLLQ(FM) in July.
A flurry of changes will also keep Pennsylvania listeners on their toes. In July, four stations were assigned new call signs. Geos Communications swapped call signs for stations in Nanticoke and Tunkhannock; WZMF(AM) is now WGMF(AM), and vice versa. Geos also changed the call sign for its Dushore station from WDYS(FM) to WGMF(FM). In Ridgebury, Southern Belle LLC swapped out WVYS(FM) for WZBF(FM).
Withers Broadcasting of Southern Illinois pulled a switcheroo. Its Murphysboro, Ill., station formerly known as WVZA(FM) will now go by WTAO(FM); and the original WTAO in Herrin will now be WVZA.
In Pine Bluff, Ark., Bluff City Radio changed KPBA(FM) to KDPX(FM) and then KHUC(FM) took over the KPBA letters.
Rhode Island Public Radio decided it was time for a change for Narragansett’s WRNI(FM), which will be known henceforth as WNPE(FM). The pubcaster also changed Newport station WXNI(FM) to WNPN(FM).
In the upper Midwest, Real Presence Radio swapped out KBAD(FM) in Sioux Falls, S.D., for KGWD(FM).
Moving south to Alabama, TBTA Ministries changed Jemison station WHPH(FM)’s call sign to WRYD(FM).
In Goochland, Va., Educational Media Foundation opted for WVNZ(FM) over the original WLRB.
Additionally, the FCC reserved three call signs for pending sales radio applicants last month. They are:
- KTYK(FM), which was requested by BD Supervisors, Louisiana State University and A&M College for the station currently known as KPXI in Overton, Texas
- WLRB(FM), requested by Educational Media Foundation to change the call sign of Ocean City, N.J., station WWAC and
- WYMW(AM), requested by Positive Alternative Radio to change WMUX in Hurricane, W.Va.
