Federal Communications Commission General Counsel Jonathan Sallet has named Jennifer Tatel as deputy general counsel and tapped John Williams as senior counselor to the general counsel.
Tatel will have responsibility for administrative law issues, in addition to her current responsibilities as chief of staff in the Office of the General Counsel. Previously, she was legal advisor for media and consumer issues to former Commissioner Meredith Attwell Baker and chief of the Media Bureau’s Industry Analysis Division. She has also worked as an attorney in private practice and worked as a social worker. She is a graduate of the George Washington University Law School.
Williams has served as a senior legal advisor in the office since 2015. Prior to his work at the FCC, he was general counsel of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation under then-Chairman Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV. He has a doctorate in history from the University of Chicago and his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.
The FCC’s Office of General Counsel serves as the principal legal advisory office to the commission as a whole. Attorneys in the office represent the commission in litigation, recommend decisions in adjudicatory matters, assist the commission in its decision-making capacity and perform a variety of legal functions regarding internal and other administrative matters.
