NEWINGTON, Conn.�Six amateur radio special event stations will broadcast from Sept. 22-27 to chronicle Pope Francis� 2015 visit to the United States,ARRL reports.
Immediately after an apostolic trip to Cuba, the Pope will arrive Sept. 22 at Joint Base Andrews just outside Washington, D.C., meeting with Pres. Barack Obama the following day and addressing a joint Congressional session. He will then travel to New York attend a UN General Assembly session Sept. 25 and also take part in a service at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center. The following day, he will speak at Independence Hall in Philadelphia and hold an outdoor mass at the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Sept. 27.
Call signs from the Washington, DC, area will be K3P and N4P; from New York and New Jersey, K2P; from southeastern Pennsylvania, W3FRC/WMF, and from Philadelphia, W3P and WM3PEN. Four commemorative QSL cards and a certificate will be available. Various regional clubs and amateur operators will help to coordinate.
