Kim Komando Addresses Radio Luncheon

Inspirational and informative keynote speech delivered by “America's Digital Goddess”

LAS VEGAS The NAB 2016 Radio Luncheon featured an inspirational and informative keynote speech by America’s Digital Goddess, Kim Komando, host of WestStar Multimedia Entertainment’s Kim Komando Show. The radio show along with her daily one-minute Digital Minute feature, are carried on over 450 radio affiliates. She told the audience it took 20 years to reach that milestone.

Our greatest challenge was to make a humble, little fledgling three-hour weekend radio show into more than just a three-hour, weekend radio show, Komando said. She had a suggestion for radio stations and show producers trying to do this: Your website must offer unique, original engaging content thats not a repeat of something that you have broadcast earlier, or just a whole bunch of links to other things. Each week the website produces more than 150 pieces of unique content.

She cautioned radio stations to inspire listener loyalty by being accessible. I personally read every email that the listeners send me. As a market manager or VP of programming do you? As for the naysayers who believe radio has seen better days Komando replied, If you don’t like the conversation that radio is a dying industry, you need to change that conversation by what you say and what you do.

The luncheon also marked the induction of ESPN Radio hosts Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame. The Crystal Radio Awards for outstanding public service initiatives were announced, along with the Crystal Heritage Award for WTMX(FM), Chicago, which is a five-time recipient of the Crystal Radio Award.
