More Background on New SBE EAS Advisory Committee

John Poray and Larry Wilkins share additional details

INDIANAPOLIS — The Society of Broadcast Engineers announced a new advisory committee focused on emergency alert system issues last week.

The idea was first proposed by Education Committee Chair Wayne Pecena and Government Relations Committee Chair Joe Snelson in June 2016, according to SBE Executive Director John L. Poray, CAE. He also explained that this is the only advisory committee the organization currently has.

The EAS advisory committee will be headed up Larry Wilkins, who explained that all of the new committee members were selected by the SBE and will jointly participate in all committee efforts.

“In order to be productive to SBE members and the engineering community, we would like to develop a program to field questions on technical and operational EAS issues,” Wilkins said. “The members would then research and formulate a solution to the issue. We would also act as a clearing house for newly issued changes and upgrades from vendors, and governmental agencies.”

Wilkins also said those with questions or comments about the advisory committee can email him.
