NPR West Seeks Electronics Engineer

The position is a 12-month assignment with the possibility of moving to full-time

CULVER CITY, Calif. � Are you an engineer who loves public radio? Here’s a job opening that may be of interest.

NPR is seeking an electronics engineer to work in its production center in Culver City, Calif. The position is initially term-limited (one year), but may convert to full-time.

According to the announcement, the role is tasked with the maintenance and repair of NPR West�s broadcast technical equipment, as well as assist the engineering technology leadership to determine engineering service�s purchasing requirements.

Qualified applicants must have two years college in computer science or electronic engineering required, but a four-year degree in related field or equivalent experience is �highly preferred.� Additionally, candidates should have at least three years experience of maintenance engineering at a station, network-level broadcaster or production house.

The position�s required skills and experience include computer networking; troubleshooting experience computer and broadcast technologies; use common hand and power tools; read schematics and understand signal flow; utilize common test equipment; experience in programming, setup, and installation of a multi-console studio, intercom, automation, router audio backbone system.

Applicants must hold broadcast engineering level and broadcast networking certification, and hearing ability is required to ensure audio quality standards. Demonstrated knowledge of audio, recording and radio production theory and practice is also a must, as is a driver�s license. Familiarity with MS Office suite and AutoCAD LT is listed as a plus, as is prior public radio experience.

As with any broadcast engineering job, applicants must be willing to do shift work, work overtime, holidays and weekends as required.
