INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. � Emergency alerting is a crucial and fast-evolving part of the world of broadcasting; now engineers have another resource to help them sort it all out.

Society of Broadcast Engineers President Jerry Massey has authorized the formation of an SBE EAS Advisory Group, the organization has announced.
�
The group will work to �stay abreast of developments regarding EAS that will affect SBE members,� according to a press release. These developments in federal regulations, policy and technology will then be communicated to the relevant SBE leadership and staff.

Chairing the group will be contract engineer Larry Wilkins, shown right, of the Alabama Broadcasters Association. The other members are George Molnar, James Hoge, Ed Czarnecki of manufacturer Monroe Electronics/Digital Alert Systems and Harold Price of manufacturer Sage Alerting Systems, all of whom serve on the SBE national committees involved with EAS issues, are involved with emergency alerts or are SBE sustaining members that manufacture EAS equipment.

The group reports to Education Committee Chair Wayne Pecena and Government Relations Committee Chair Joe Snelson.

�Going forward, one focus of the group will be to field reports concerning origination or distribution problems from broadcast stations and state emergency communications committees,� said Wilkins. �Using the expertise of the committee members along with information from our contacts with the FCC and FEMA, a recommended solution can be issued to the industry.�
