Seattle Station Begins Work on New Home

Move to new facility is planned for late 2015

KEXP(FM) radio recently broke ground on its new broadcast studio complex. A commemorate ceremony was held. Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, King County Executive Dow Constantine and more than 700 fans were in attendance.

Funds for the new $15 million broadcast complex were raised by an on-air campaign and augmented by foundation, corporate, local entrepreneur and local government support. The project is expected to be completed in the end of this year or early 2016.

KEXP will soon occupy a 28,000-sq. ft. piece of real estate in Seattle Center’s Northwest Rooms. The complex will include: A 400-sq. ft. on-air studio, a 1,090-sq. ft. live room, two production rooms, two audio and two DJ booths, two video edit rooms, a video control room, two DJ iso booths, a green room, production/mastering, open office space, a library, conference rooms, and a 4,500- sq. ft. reception area/audience space with a stage for live performances, adjacent to a record/retail store and a café.

The studios were designed by Walters-Storyk Design Group and feature an A/V broadcast systems integration design based on a Wheatstone Audio for Radio and TV system.
