Las Vegas – Apr 3, 2012 – Emmis Communications is part of a partnership planning to introduce an HD Radio-equipped smartphone at the 2012 NAB Show in Las Vegas, according to an article in Inside Indiana Business.
The move by Emmis Interactive follows the Indianapolis company’s role in establishing the Broadcaster Traffic Consortium. Emmis Chief Technology Officer Paul Brenner said that group includes more than 19 North American radio companies that distribute information and advertising on FM and HD Radio.
Emmis is working on the project with computer chip maker Intel and iBiquity Digital. The HD Radio technology, already being employed by the Broadcast Traffic Consortium, has the potential to pump information including real-time traffic maps and gas prices into radios.
