NAB is working with the Salvation Army and American Red Cross to distribute 10,000 battery-operated handheld radios to residents displaced by Katrina.
The national commander of the Salvation Army commended broadcasters in the Gulf Coast region for doing a “remarkable” job against enormous odds to provide timely and accurate information. “We cannot thank NAB enough for providing battery-operated radios for our distribution to citizens who need them most.”
Local Red Cross chapters will distribute the radios.
