2014 Honda Civic to Feature HD Radio Audio, Traffic

Model will arrive at Honda dealerships in December

The 2014 Civic will be Honda’s first car that will feature HD Radio-delivered audio and real-time traffic data using Nokia’s HERE mapping service. HD Radio stations that are members of the Broadcast Traffic Consortium can transmit traffic information along with their broadcast signals.

That’s the news from iBiquity Digital this week from the L.A. Auto Show.

The new Honda Civic navigation system incorporates HD Radio features like Artist Experience, in which the digital audio is synchronized with visual elements like song, title and artist on the infotainment display. The BTC-delivered HD Radio traffic information shows drivers green, yellow and red flow patterns, construction alerts and traffic incidents.

IBiquity Digital COO Jeff Jury called the Civic an example of the benefits of bringing the HD Radio data pipe into the car, as part of a “connected vehicle strategy.”
