‘Fairness Doctrine’ Not on Agenda, Obama Spokesman Says

Revival rumors persist; one report claims prominent Dem wants to use it to police the Net

The Obama administration does not intend to revive the Fairness Doctrine, according to a presidential spokesman.

This week, White House spokesman Ben LaBolt reiterated to conservative news outlet Fox News: “As the president stated during the campaign, he does not believe the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated.”

Fox News cited a report in the arch conservative publication “The American Spectator” that purported to portray Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., looking into ways to apply the media control standards to the Internet.

His office denies the report and an FCC spokesman disputed the claims in the piece.
