Internet radio broadcasters streamed 16.5% fewer hours of news, talk and entertainment during the Nov. 19-25 week than they did in the previous week, according to MeasureCast. The company stated that the lower numbers reflect the time off from work that many people enjoy during the Thanksgiving holiday. That includes Friday and Thursday for many people. MeasureCast, as well as many other researchers, finds that Internet radio listening is primarily an at-work activity.
The company reported that weekend listening was up 3 percent over the previous weekend’s streamed hours.
Christmas music channels experienced increases in total time spent listening. For example, Cablemusic Network’s Christmas Classic station took ninth place in the latest MeasureCast Top 25 weekly ranking with 11, 275 on-line listeners tuning in for 38,056 hours. The week before, Christmas Classic ranked 31st with 5,486 people listening to more than19,000 hours of music.
