The FCC let Radio Lake Placid, licensee of WIRD(AM) and WLPW(FM) in Lake Placid, N.Y., off the hook for a proposed $8,000 EAS fine. The penalty stemmed from 2002, when commission field agents noticed during an inspection that neither station had EAS equipment installed at the main studio. Lake Placid responded with documentation from its consulting engineer to prove the equipment had been removed for repair. Lake Placid asked the fine to be cancelled since the EAS equipment was repaired and replaced within the allowed 60-day time frame for that purpose. The FCC agreed and cancelled the fine.
